Early History

Archaeological excavations have shown evidence of continual human habitation of the area for over 10,000 years! Cabo San Lucas founder, Cipriano Cesna of Hermosillo, Sonora arrived in 1788 and Cabo became a town. European settlers arrived in the 1800s, and by 1917, Cabo began growing into a fishing village.

A Developing Area

From the small fishing village of the early 1900s, Cabo has grown and developed beaches, surfing, and sport fishing opportunities for Mexican natives as well as visitors from abroad. The Transpeninsular Highway/Mexican Federal Highway 1 created easy access, and developers built homes and resorts.

Today, the town of Cabo is known for fishing – hosting the world’s largest marlin fishing tournament, beach activities, and more. The “Resort Corridor” is home to a number of hotels and tourist attractions, nightlife, and more that attract visitors from all over.
