It’s a fun, interesting place with plenty of history and little-known Cabo things to know you’ll love to discover about your home away from home while you’re here.

Who Founded Cabo?

Japanese castaway Hatsutaro claims when arrived in Cabo San Lucas in 1842, there were two houses and about 20 inhabitants. American authors Henry Edwards and John Ross Browne claim the area was founded by Englishman Thomas “Old Tom” Ritchie around 1828. Neither of these accounts ring true, as the actual founder of Cabo San Lucas is Cipriano Cesena, who arrived from Hermosillo, Sonora in 1788.

On TV

Land’s End, an American crime drama series running 1995-96, was set in Cabo. The Cabo-themed show starred former football player Fred Dryer.

Money

Exchange your US dollars for Mexican Pesos. Although USD is widely accepted at shops, dining establishments, and attractions, the exchange rate is always the best and you end up paying a bit more with your US currency. Also, businesses may have established their own exchange rates, so be sure to convert currencies before making any purchases.

Cabo Nicknames
