Los Cabos Water Sports Journey

The year-round sun and warmth of Los Cabos is what makes it a great place for a getaway no matter the time of year you come. The beautiful, world-class beaches and waters of Cabo make for some fun in the sun time with a variety of water sports. Add some Mexican flair, and you have a Los Cabos water sports adventure. There is plenty to see and do as you explore the waters of the Pacific Ocean, Sea of Cortez, and the Gulf of California.

Day 1: El Arco de Cabo San Lucas

Along with all the beach and water fun, you won’t want to miss Cabo’s iconic arch. Formed over many hundreds of years, the arch marks the spot where the Pacific Ocean officially becomes the Gulf of California. It’s not just a sight to see; there’s a nearby beach where you can enjoy all the beach and water activities you’re looking forward to on a Cabo vacation.

Day 2: SCUBA Dive

There are plenty of natural habitats where you’ll observe a wide variety of native plants and wildlife. Go for a hike on land to find it. Take that “hike” below the waves with a SCUBA diving adventure. You’ll find many species of fish, marine invertebrates and vertebrates, and more. There are a number of prime spots in the area, which include Chileno Reef and other underwater features. If you’re a little more experienced, you can dive the awesome Sandfalls, discovered by the famed Jacques Cousteau! Take your first dives with a tour group. You’ll need to be trained and certified before attempting any dives without a certified instructor.

Day 3: Snorkel

For those that don’t want to dive completely below the waters, you can still get the underwater view. Snorkel tours often hit the same or similar spots as SCUBA tours. You stay closer to the water’s surface, and exert less energy for a more relaxing journey. Don’t forget an underwater camera for awesome pics of the underwater world, including guitarfish, eels, a variety of fish, rays, corals, and more.

Day 4: Jet Skis

Start by taking a tour of the area with a tour group. You’ll stick closer to the shores of Cabo than during a snorkel or SCUBA experience, while still admiring the sights of Cabo. Many companies offer one- and two-seater jet skis, so you can enjoy a solo ride or share the experience with one of your loved ones. Many tours pass popular spots like the Arch, Lover’s Beach, Land’s End, the Cabo Corridor, and more.

Once you’ve found your favorite places, and built your skill with the vessel, you can rent one and strike out on your own adventures. Captains must be at least 17 years old with a valid driver’s license. Select companies may have restrictions on the age of passengers for two-person vessels.

Day 5: Parasailing

Mix fun on the water with fun in the air! Parasailing is a unique activity where you can experience both. Get a bird’s eye view of the beautiful Cabo waters and landscape from up to 600 feet in the air! The rule for participation is if you can sit, you can fly! Stay completely dry, taking off and landing from the specially designed parasailing boat with landing deck, or ask to dip down for a skim in the water before heading up to come down safely on the deck.

Depending on the company, children as young as five are welcome in the harness, as long as they fly with an older companion (age depends on company, typically 16+). Flights are up to 15 minutes long, and your total time at sea will depend on how many “flyers” there are. Go on a solo adventure or strap in with one or two friends in the harness that fits three flyers.

Day 6: Surf

One of the most popular water sports in Los Cabos is surfing. Ride the waves that beginners all the way up to professionals seek out. There are a number of great locations, and you can ask about the best spots for your experience level. There are also opportunities for surf lessons, so you can learn the basics from shore classes to catching your first wave.

Bonus: Canoe/Kayak/Stand Up Paddleboard

For those who want to chill out a bit on the water, the more slow-paced activities may be for you. Grab a paddle and your favorite vessel for a fun cruise. Go on a tour and explore the areas around the arch, Tourist Corridor, and more. Add on adventures like snorkeling or wildlife watching. Once you’re ready to strike out on your own, rent some gear and create your own adventure.
